At Home With the Aujla Family

I had the honor of photographing baby Jace’s parents at his baby shower at the Del Monte Lodge in Pittsford. It was an adorable soiree crafted lovingly by event planners Curated Love. To meet the celebrant for the first time a few months later was such a sweet moment! And it was even sweeter that his mother, Saumya, and father, Khush, asked me to capture some of Jace’s earliest moments with them.

A family session at home is always ideal, especially with a newborn. You and baby will be way more comfortable in your surroundings and, in this particular case, you don’t have to go out in the winter chill!

I’ve often been asked for guidance in setting up an at-home photo session so I thought that it would be a great idea to share some tips with you.

For an in-home family session, here are a few notes:

• Natural light photography is best for the most beautiful photos so I typically prefer to shoot between 10 am – 2 pm during the winter months.
• Best places to shoot – select a room or rooms with the most windows that let in all that beautiful natural light!
• Natural candid family photos are my style so just relax and enjoy moments with your little one and I’ll capture it all.
• Have 2-3 outfits ready for baby for different looks and in case baby has a little “oopsie”.
• As for outfits for Mom, Dad and the littles, I find that neutrals often photograph the best. Try to stay away from busy patterns, especially a mix of them. A combination of neutral solids and a single pop of color look best together. In this case, Jace’s parents wore white and blue while baby Jace wore pale blue outfits.
• If you have a particular blanket or basket you’d like for baby to pose on or in, let’s do it! I do have special pillows to make your baby comfortable.
• In-home sessions typically run from 60-90 minutes.

Jace has the most beautiful wallpaper in his nursery! It was the perfect backdrop for his photo session.
